Summertime taste of Nectarine and Goat Cheese Tart

Every time I arrive in my beloved South of France, I am always fascinated by the richness and diversity of ingredients that the region offers compared to London. Summer is undoubtedly my favourite season, and I am constantly on the lookout for easy-peasy dishes that celebrate the bountiful produce of the season. However, when the heat gets unbearable, I tend to steer clear of my oven. But there are times when a savoury tart or pie comes in handy, especially when hosting a buffet. And, if there is one tart that truly encapsulates the essence of summertime, it must be the nectarine and goat cheese tart.

Summertime Smells with a Nectarine and Goat Cheese Tart

The nectarine and goat cheese tart is an easy-peasy dish that is delicious and perfect to serve as an appetizer or as part of a light summer meal. The aroma of the nectarines and the tangy hint of the goat cheese perfectly complement each other, making this tart an absolute treat for the senses.

A Taste of History

The nectarine and goat cheese tart is not only a delicious dish, but it also has a rich history. The nectarine, a close relative of the peach, was first cultivated in China over 2,000 years ago. It was brought to Europe by Alexander the Great and was a favourite of the Romans. Similarly, goat cheese has been a staple of Mediterranean cuisine for centuries. Together, they create a dish that celebrates the past and the present.

Wine pairing

No meal is complete without a good wine pairing. The red wine La Mancha Joven from Spain is a perfect match for my nectarine and goat cheese tart.

La Mancha Joven hailing from the largest delimited wine region in Europe, has a rich history dating back to Roman times. This Spanish wine is produced in the La Mancha wine region, known for its hot and dry climate that gives intensity and European personality to its wines. In this article, we delve into the story behind this wine, its unique characteristics, and why it is a perfect pairing for the nectarine and goat cheese tart.

The Characteristics of La Mancha Joven

La Mancha wine region, located in the Spanish provinces of Albacete, Cuenca, Ciudad Real, and Toledo, is the oldest wine-growing area in the world. The region has a long history of winemaking, with the Moors introducing grapevines to the area in the 8th century. The name “La Mancha” is derived from the Arabic term “Al-Mansha,” meaning birthplace or fountainhead. The region has been producing wine for millennia, and it is the largest delimited wine region not only in Spain but in the whole of Europe.

La Mancha Joven is a young red wine that typically has smooth, medium-bodied, and ripe raspberry fruit notes. The dominant grape in the region is Tempranillo, locally known as Cencibel. However, the La Mancha regulations also allow the planting and blending of many international grapes.
