Elevate Your Aperitif
Aperitif in France is an essential cultural ritual that goes beyond just opening a bottle of wine. It is a moment to enjoy, to connect, and to indulge in the pleasure of good company and delicious bites. And that’s why I introducing you to a delightful aperitif companion: Rillettes with Onion Jam.
A French Tradition
In France, the aperitif is not merely a prelude to a meal; it’s an art form. It is that magical time when friends and family gather, and conversation flows as freely as the wine.
Rillettes, the star of my aperitif show, are a classic French delicacy that have been cherished for generations. These creamy, spreadable delights are traditionally made by slow-cooking meat, typically pork, until it becomes tender and flavourful. Mind you, I always buy some duck or geese one!
A Bit of History
Rillettes have a fascinating history that harkens back to the French countryside, where they were originally a way to preserve meat in the days before refrigeration. The slow cooking and preserving in fat allowed these delectable morsels to be enjoyed year-round. Onion jam, on the other hand, has its roots in the sweet condiments of various culinary traditions. Combining the two is like uniting history and flavour in one delectable bite.
The Magic of Onion Jam
Now, imagine taking those delectable rillettes and giving them a sweet, tangy twist. That is where my secret ingredient, onion jam, comes into play. The marriage of rich, savoury rillettes with the sweet and slightly acidic notes of onion jam creates an exquisite aperitif
As a French food blogger living in London, I have had the privilege of experiencing the best of both worlds. I have seen how aperitif traditions vary from country to country, but one thing remains constant: the joy of sharing food with loved ones. That is why I am excited to share this oh-so-French rillettes with onion jam recipe with you. It is a little piece of my French heritage mixed with the multicultural influences of London, and I hope it becomes a cherished part of your aperitif repertoire…
Do not forget to leave a comment and let me know how it turned out! And if you have any variation of this recipe that you would like to share, I would love to hear it.
