Easy-peasy: Baked Egg with Salmon in Brioche
Are you looking for a dish that’s both original and easy to make? Look no further than my baked eggs in brioche! This classic French recipe, known as cocotte, is traditionally cooked in a small cast iron casserole dish, giving it a rustic charm. However, today we’ll be making a modern twist on this classic recipe by using a delicious brioche bread as the vessel for our eggs…
The cocotte is a staple of French cuisine and has been a popular cooking vessel for centuries. Originally made from cast iron, the cocotte was used to cook stews, soups, and other hearty dishes. However, it’s now also used to create delicate dishes like baked eggs. These eggs are often prepared with cream, herbs, and cheese, but today I am adding a delicious touch of salmon and crème fraiche to the mix.
The Perfect Texture
By cooking the eggs in the oven, the brioche develops a crispy exterior while the eggs remain soft and runny on the inside. The whites hardly set, while the yolk remains deliciously creamy. Miam!
Discovering Luberon Rosé
To complement my baked egg with salmon in brioche, I recommend pairing it with a crisp, refreshing Luberon rosé from the Rhone Valley.
Luberon is an Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) located in the southeastern extreme of the Rhône Valley wine region, producing all three colours of wine. However, it is best known for its aromatic, vibrant rosés that have captured the hearts of wine enthusiasts around the world.
A Link Between Rhône Valley and Provence
The appellation is a link between the Rhône Valley and Provence, with a rich and unique terroir. It was given AOC quality status in 1988, and since then, has become synonymous with high-quality, characterful wines that are a true reflection of their place of origin.
Beautiful Mineral Notes and Tasting Notes
Luberon Rosé has beautiful mineral notes that add complexity to its medium-bodied, well-balanced, and lively finish. Tasting notes include peaches and elegant floral notes, jellied redcurrant and cherry sorbet, and floral notes such as rose, honeysuckle, acacia, verbena, and orange blossom. The wine’s vibrant acidity and refreshing finish make it a perfect pairing for many cuisines and occasions.
A Rich History and Long Tradition
The region has a long and rich history, dating back to the Lagozza Culture some 5,000 years ago, and the Greeks planted the first grapevines in Provence 2,600 years ago. The terroir and climate provide the ideal growing conditions for the region’s signature grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, which are blended to create the Luberon Rosé’s unique taste and character.
Provence Rosé Wine
Today, Provence rosé wine accounts for 82% of the total wine produced in the region, and it’s not hard to see why. With its delicate colour, enticing aroma, and refreshing taste, Luberon Rosé is a true delight that is enjoyed by wine lovers worldwide. So, the next time you’re looking for a wine that’s both delicious and unique, reach for a bottle of Luberon Rosé and experience the magic of this special place. Don’t forget that this wine is best served chilled and enjoyed with good company.
