Let’s start with the main ingredient, apples. Apples are a classic autumn fruit and are perfect for use in this recipe. They are sweet and juicy, and when caramelized with calvados, they take on a whole new dimension of taste. Calvados is a type of “eau de vie” or “water of life,” that is produced in Normandy, France. The first distillation of cider to create a brandy, dates back to the 16th century by Sir de Gouberville. It is during the French Revolution that the farmer’s called it calvados, from the area which it has been created…, and it is a tradition that is still going strong today. Calvados has a unique and complex aroma that is perfect for pairing with apples, adding a nice sweetness and warmth to the dish.
Chestnuts: the festive season’s must-have ingredient
Chestnuts are another must-have ingredient for this recipe. They are a staple of the festive season, and no autumnal meal is complete without them. Chestnuts add a nice nuttiness and a bit of texture to the crumble, making it even more satisfying to eat. They are also a good source of vitamins and minerals, making this dish not only delicious but also nutritious.
The combination of apples, calvados, and chestnuts creates a truly delicious and satisfying crumble.
