NONNETTES FROM DIJON (Orange gingerbread)
Have you ever tried my easy-peasy nonnettes recipe ?: A delicious reminder that Dijon is more than mustard…
The Delight of Dijon
Oh miam, have you had the pleasure of encountering the enchanting nonnettes? These delectable treats, originating from the heart of my beloved France in the lovely town of Dijon, are a culinary gem worth enjoying. Dijon may be renowned for its famous “moutarde de Dijon,” but within this historic city lies a hidden treasure : the iconic nonnettes. These delightful gingerbread-like cakes, subtly flavored with orange marmalade, are an irresistible temptation.
A Sweet Heritage
The name “nonnettes” carries an intriguing history of its own. These delectable cakes were christened in honor of the nuns, or “nonnes” in French, who lovingly crafted them within the serene confines of their convents.
Mulot and Petit Jean: A Legacy of Nonnettes
If you ever find yourself wandering through the enchanting streets of Dijon, you’ll be delighted to know that nonnettes have been lovingly crafted there since 1796 by the renowned Mulot and Petit Jean. This illustrious confectionery house has preserved the traditional recipe and techniques, ensuring that the flavors of nonnettes continue…
A Personal Love Affair
As a French woman, my journey with nonnettes has been a delightful one. I’ve fallen head over heels for these delectable morsels when I was a little girl! For me, nonnettes encapsulate the very essence of Christmas. The aroma of gingerbread and the citrusy notes of orange marmalade that waft from a fresh batch of nonnettes evoke the warmth and joy of the holiday season. The delicate balance of honey, spices, and the zesty marmalade harmonize perfectly, creating a taste that’s both nostalgic and captivating. The mere sight of these petite delights conjures up images of cozy winter evenings by the fireplace.
The Whiff of Christmas
Perhaps it is the spices or the touch of orange marmalade, but nonnettes undoubtedly have that unmistakable Christmas aroma. It is the fragrance of holiday gatherings, of joyous reunions, and of sharing stories with my family and friends around a crackling fire. Nonnettes invite you to create your own holiday memories, regardless of the season.
