From the sunny shores of the Amalfi Coast to the bustling streets of Rome, the Caprese salad is known and loved by many. However, it is on the picturesque island of Capri that this dish truly shines. Originating from the famous Quisisana Hotel in the 1920s, the Insalata Caprese Originale di Capri has stood the test of time and continues to captivate the palates of food lovers worldwide.
The Secret Ingredients Behind Capri’s Famous Salad
The key to unlocking the full potential of this dish lies in the meticulous selection of its ingredients. The tomatoes must be of equal size, to the juicy mozzarella di buffala from Campania. The basil leaves, meanwhile, must be large, with a delicate fragrance that brings to mind the lush greenery of the Neapolitan countryside.

One thing to note is that, in the true spirit of the Caprese salad, it is meant to be enjoyed on its own, without the accompaniment of bread or gressini. This is a dish that celebrates the freshness and purity of its ingredients, allowing each component to shine in its own right.
And what better way to enhance this sensory experience than with a glass of Falanghina del Taburno, a crisp and lively white wine from the Campania region…
Uncovering the Legacy of Falanghina del Taburno
Perched amidst the rolling hills of Campania lies a story of wine making steeped in history and tradition. The ancient vineyards of Falanghina del Taburno can trace their roots back to the Greeks, who first planted their vines in this region over two millennia ago. Today, this ancient variety continues to flourish, thanks to its vibrant body, beautiful color, and a bouquet that tantalises the senses with its floral and fruity notes.
Embodying the essence of Campania, Falanghina del Taburno thrives in the porous volcanic soils around Mount Vesuvius and basks in the warmth of the Mediterranean climate. It is renowned as Falanghina del Sannio, a DOC wine that embodies the finest qualities of this sun-drenched region.
Sip on the Nectar of the Gods
The main grape variety of Falanghina del Taburno is the eponymous Falanghina, a white wine grape of Italian origin that is said to have been brought to the region by the Greeks. This versatile grape variety is also used in other wines from Campania, including DOC Guardiolo, Sant’Agata dei Goti, Sannio, Solopaca, and Taburno.
Each sip of Falanghina del Taburno reveals a delicate bouquet of white flowers and exotic fruits, a complex palate with a fine balance of softness and crispness, and a finish that lingers with hints of fennel and herbal notes. Its dry, fresh, and zesty character is punctuated by tree fruit notes such as pear, apple, and peach, creating a harmonious balance in every glass.
Embrace the True Essence of Campania
With its timeless elegance and alluring bouquet, Falanghina del Taburno is the epitome of the wine-making tradition of Campania. So, why not take a moment to indulge in this nectar of the gods and experience the beauty of this ancient variety for yourself?”
