PRAWN BUTTER
Prawn Butter: A Decadent Starter for Effortless Entertaining
As we enter the festive season, our days are filled with Christmas shopping, holiday parties, and family gatherings. It is understandable that we may not always have the time or energy to prepare an elaborate meal. However, that does not mean we have to sacrifice taste or quality. This is where the prawn butter comes in as the perfect solution to your entertaining needs.
Effortless and Delicious
The prawn butter is a supersonic recipe that requires minimal preparation. With just two ingredients and a blender, you can create a delicious starter or light aperitif. I even realized mine during summer time as it is so easy-peasy and tasty! The simplicity of the recipe does not compromise its taste. The combination of butter and prawns creates a smooth and velvety texture that melts in your mouth.
The Gers: A Region Steeped in Wine-Making History
When it comes to wine pairing, a Gers (White) from the South West of France is an ideal match for the prawn butter.
The Gers, is a picturesque region that you really must visit one day! It boasts a rich wine-making heritage that dates back to the Gallo-Roman era. For centuries, the Gers has produced a plethora of red and white wines, including the world-renowned Armagnac.
The Gers IGP: A Distinctive Wine-Making Region
The Gers IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) designation covers the entire Gers department, encompassing a diverse range of authentic grape varieties from the South-West. Among its most notable offerings are the region’s light and fresh white wines, whose unique identity reflects the terroir of the Gers.
A Legacy of Innovation: Prosper Delord and the Alambic
Prosper Delord, a renowned Armagnac producer, revolutionized the wine-making industry in the Gers by using an alambic (still) to transform white wine into Armagnac. Carrying the alambic from farm to farm in Gascony, Delord’s innovative approach set a precedent for future generations of wine makers.
Tasting Notes: From Delicate to Concentrated
The Gers’ white wines boast a fine and delicate flavour profile, or a rich and concentrated taste, often reflective of the grape varieties used. With aromas of honey, orange, and marmalade, these wines are known for their light and refreshing qualities.
Authentic Grape Varieties: A Hallmark of the Gers
The Gers was once one of the largest vineyards in France, and its collection of authentic grape varieties from the South-West remains one of its defining characteristics. Among the grapes used in the region’s white wines are Grenaches blanc and gris, Macabeu, Malvoisie du Roussillon, Marsanne, Roussanne, Vermentino, Muscat d’Alexandrie, Muscat petits grains, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, and Viognier. This unique blend of grapes is what gives Gers wines their signature taste and character…
