The Origins of the Creusois

The Creusois cake hails from the Limousin region in France. A legend said that the recipe of this cake comes from a 15th century’s parchment discovered in a former monastery in 1969 and translated from Old French.

Made with butter, sugar, flour, ground hazelnuts, and egg whites, it boasts a delightful nutty flavor and a fluffy texture. Traditionally baked in tile-lined ovens for that extra special touch, it has evolved over time with various adaptations while keeping its essence intact. This beloved cake is a favorite across France, often enjoyed alongside a cup of coffee or tea. Its enduring popularity speaks volumes about its delicious simplicity and deep ties to Limousin’s culinary heritage.
