HOME MADE SALTED CARAMEL “SALIDOU”

Easy and gorgeous home made salted caramel Salidou sauce recipe. The secret behind Brittany’s culinary treasures.

Discover the sweet and salty delight of Brittany’s Salidou

Brittany, a land of wild beauty and unparalleled cuisine, has captured the hearts of many with its fiery sea and breath-taking landscapes. From the charming villages to the picturesque cities, Brittany is a place where one can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse oneself in a world of traditional culture and delicious food.

As a child, I was lucky enough to be cared for by a woman from Ploërmel in Brittany, who introduced me to the amazing cuisine of this magnificent region. She would often prepare the most exquisite dishes, many of which were made with the famous Salidou caramel sauce from Quiberon. This caramel, made from local cream, sugar, and butter, is a must in Breton cuisine and a true testament to the region’s culinary traditions.

Take a bite out of Brittany

One of my fondest memories is of the delicious caramels she would make with the Salidou sauce (THE salted caramel cream, a specialty from Quiberon). I could eat them all day long and still never tire of their sweet, rich, and creamy taste. I am honoured to share this recipe with you, a recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation and holds a special place in my heart.

But Brittany is not just about its cuisine. It is also a land of great cultural significance, a place where one can find the mythical forest of Brocéliande (or foret de Paimpon) and be transported to a world of magic and mystery. The light in Brittany is special, playing with the scenery around and creating a beautiful backdrop for any amateur photographer. for those who love to experience the outdoors, and between you and I, sometimes I wish I could bring my horses there is nothing quite like a full gallop on the stunning beaches of Brittany.

Uncover the hidden gem of Brittany’s cuisine

To truly experience the essence of Brittany, I would recommend visiting this magnificent region and savouring its many delights, from its rich heritage to its delicious cuisine. If you have the opportunity, try to find some Brittany-made crème fraîche, as it will only enhance the aroma of the Salidou caramel sauce. And, who knows, you may just fall in love with Brittany as I did, and be forever enchanted by its beauty and charm.

I hope that this recipe of caramel Salidou has inspired you to explore the wonders of Brittany and to sample its delicious cuisine. Whether you are a food lover, a culture enthusiast, or just looking for a place to escape from the world, Brittany is a place that will not disappoint. So, pack your bags and head to this magnificent land, where you can immerse yourself in its rich history, vibrant culture, and, most importantly, its delicious food. To Katell, who was my nounou and who has passed on this recipe to me, I am forever grateful. Thank you for introducing me to the beauty of Brittany and for sharing your love of its cuisine with me…
