Paired with a Clairet rosé from Bordeaux

I unravel a tale that dates back to the Hundred Years’ War, a time when the English, having conquered Bordeaux, sought wines with a lighter profile. Thus, they embarked on a journey to transport these wines during fermentation back to England, giving birth to “The French Claret.” Bordeaux Clairet, the oldest of French wines, carries within it the legacy of its noble ancestry, serving as the progenitor of Bordeaux wines.

From Quinsac to Bordeaux: Tracing the Origins of Bordeaux Clairet

In the heart of the Bordeaux region you will find Quinsac, the birthplace of Bordeaux Clairet. It is here that the roots of this distinguished wine reach deep into the earth, intertwining with the ancient vines that have witnessed the passage of time. A specialty of Premieres Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Clairet flourishes in its terroir.

Bordeaux Clairet and the Middle Ages

Descending from the esteemed French Claret, this libation gained favour among the discerning English connoisseurs. Its intense strawberry and black currant flavours, balanced with delicate floral notes of rose and peony, bewitched the senses. It is no wonder that Bordeaux Clairet became synonymous with excellence, birthing the very term “Claret,” which has come to represent young red wines from Bordeaux.

The Intricate Profile of Bordeaux Clairet

Bordeaux Clairet, with its vibrant and expressive character, is on the palate like a lyrical composition. Lime, black currant, and pink berries dance harmoniously. This velvety elixir, dry yet full-bodied,reveals silky red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate notes. Without omitting a fresh leafy edge… So, paired with my delicious cod and chorizo crumble….., it creates a harmonious union of tastes that is simply irresistible.
